Rhode Island became the eighth state to approve sports betting.
Governor Gina Raimondo approved the 2018 state budget, which also allowed for legalized sports betting, and the first wagers were booked in November 2019 at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln. The state opened originally with just in-person betting only, but passed a bill into law in March 2019 that allowed for statewide mobile betting. 26, the Twin River Casino in Lincoln accepted Rhode Island’s first official sports bet. In June 2018 the state budget, which included language that allowed legal sports betting, was approved. Once the Supreme Court struck down PASPA in 2018, Rhode Island did not waste much time before implementing legalized sports betting.
